Okay, now we are starting to get into the more interesting parts of Ontario….today I leave Espanola for Niagara falls…I have two options, continue on the Trans Canada hwy through Sudbury, then south to the Falls…..or, head south from Espanola, catch a ferry across Lake Huron, then south to the Falls…I had met another rider on his way to Nova Scotia (from Alberta) and he had mentioned this ferry route would save about 3hrs of driving….he was dead wrong!!! I ended up taking the ferry route and it was actually about 3hrs LONGER!!! (hmmm, maybe I got things reversed???), anyhow, it was a much more relaxed ride…except for the fact that I got my first speeding ticket on the way to catch the ferry!!! So all in all, this ferry route cost me 3hrs of travel and 100 bucks….oh well, what can ya do…

So after 9.5hrs on the road, I rolled into Niagara Falls….I had been here before, but that was about 20 years ago, so needless to say, I didn’t remember a thing…

The falls were pretty impressive, but I think Iguazu Falls in Argentina definitely beats it out…What really impressed me was Clifton Hill, which was basically a mini Vegas for kids!!! It is a “fun” strip by the falls with lots of neon, ice cream shops, wax museums, arcades…etc.. exactly what every kid would want….

I have one night here then I head north east towards Ottawa bypassing Toronto (been there many times before and I am starting to get anxious for the Atlantic)…

Bright and early Sunday morning we packed up and hit the road with grey skies looming, the weather report didn’t look so good and was calling for rain, possibly thunder showers along our route to Manitoba. Today was the day Adam was going to start his route home, but he really wanted to hit some Manitoba “dirt” before his trip ended…so his plan was to ride with me to the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border (approximately 3 hrs away) then peel off and head south to the US to return back to Vancouver…

As soon as we crossed the provincial border, we took this pic, then it was time to split….Adam headed south to North Dakota/Montana and I continued on to Winnipeg…

I rolled into the Peg (Winnipeg) around 4:00 pm and checked into my hotel for the night…I was only staying for the night, so this gave me a little time to take a look around the city….I don’t want to offend anyone from Winnipeg, but this place sucks!!! There’s really nothing interesting to see and it seemed like the city was deserted (granted it was a Sunday night) and only populated by a very few tourists and quite a few vagrants….I’ve been to some very “shady” areas in Asia, Mexico and South America and I actually felt a little more “scared” here in the Peg….Of course, this is only one person’s review and I really only had a few hours to look around with no guide to show me the “good” spots, so you can take all this with a grain of salt…

I have found the world’s ugliest building….and it’s in Winnipeg!!! This is actually going to be the Canadian Museum of Human Rights…not sure exactly what that will entail, but the architect should be put away for a crime on the city….

Ok enough with dissin’ Winnipeg….Regina wasn’t that much better…lol

One night in Winnipeg was enough and it’s time to get going….the next few days are going to be mileage days to get southern Ontario…

Friday morning and back on the Trans Canada Hwy heading east to Saskatchewan…Adam and I pondered where to go next after Calgary and it was a toss up between Edmonton (go and visit the big Mall) or head east to Regina….the thing that swayed the decision to Regina… the BC Lions were playing the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday…that did it and off to Regina  we were…. Arrive Friday evening, catch the football game the next day, then get the heck out of Regina…pretty much that was the plan.

Enough of Regina….It’s time to move on, Manitoba was calling and Sunday morning it was time to go….

I guess we couldn’t have timed it any better…Stampede time!!! For those of you who do not know what the Calgary Stampede is….well, it’s pretty much a good excuse to party and drink for ten days….it is an annual rodeo, exhibition and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta which lasts for ten days and bills itself as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, it attracts over one million visitors per year and features one of the world’s largest rodeos.

We left Summerland early in the morn cause we figured we had a good 12 hour day ahead of us riding through Osoyoos, Cranbrook then up through Radium Hot Springs and then through Banff onto Calgary. Since today was pretty much a mileage day, we only had stops for gas and not too many pics…maybe on my way back I can do the Rockies again and tour a little more through Banff, Jasper etc…

After a couple of days on the road, all the bugs start to add up….

Arrived in Calgary late Tuesday afternoon, dropped off our stuff at a friend of Adam’s (where we were staying for next few days) and off we were to start “stampeding”….I gotta tell ya, this was my first time here and it didn’t disappoint….the whole town pretty much shuts down and everybody is stampeding!!! It was so much fun that we actually stayed an extra day…but, it was also nice to leave and get a little break….if ya know what I mean…lol…

100 Year Anniversary!!!!

So we ended up stayin an extra day and Friday morning, it was time to leave….packed up, bid farewell to Gerry, thanked him for the accommodations and off we were…..had enough of Alberta, pointed our bikes east and headed for Saskatchewan….

“our home and native land….” I may be a week late from Canada Day, but better now than never….It’s July 9th and the beginning of my road trip across Canada….Day 1….My buddy Adam is going to join me for a few days and we are going to head to Summerland today and spend the night with his sister. It’s a short ride (about 5hrs) so nothing too exciting and we have both been this way numerous times, It is basically a stop over on our way to Calgary….
